An East Palo Alto man has been sentenced to 40-years-to-life in prison for setting fire to a San Mateo home in a gang dispute that killed an elderly grandmother.
Fifita Tau, 28, was arrested three days after the fire and charged with murder, arson, and gang enhancements. He was convicted of all charges earlier this month.
Police said the blaze was a targeted gang-related attack. Tau allegedly set fire to the home of a rival gang member, killing the victim, who was sleeping inside.
Tau's sentencing comes as a relief to the victim's family, who has been waiting for justice for over two years.
