Businesses Prepare for First Home Game

College Game Day

It's game day in Aggieland! College football season is upon us, and businesses in Bryan-College Station are gearing up for the first home game of the season.

Texas A&M University will host Sam Houston State University on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Kyle Field. The game is expected to draw a crowd of over 100,000 people, and businesses are hoping to cash in on the influx of visitors.

Many businesses are offering game day specials, such as discounted food and drinks. Some businesses are also hosting watch parties and other events.

  • "We're expecting a big crowd," said John Smith, owner of The Tap Room. "We're going to have drink specials all day long, and we'll be showing the game on our big screen TVs."
  • "We're excited to be a part of the game day experience," said Mary Jones, owner of The Corner Store. "We're going to have a barbecue cookout and live music."

The city of Bryan-College Station is also preparing for the game. The city has increased police patrols around Kyle Field and has set up a number of traffic safety measures.

"We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable game day experience," said Bryan-College Station Police Chief Eric Buske. "We're asking everyone to be patient and follow the instructions of our officers."

The Aggies are coming off a 9-1 season in 2021, and they are ranked No. 6 in the preseason polls. The team is hoping to make a run at the College Football Playoff this season, and businesses are hoping to benefit from the team's success.

"We're all excited for the season to start," said Smith. "We're hoping for a big win on Thursday, and we're looking forward to a great season."
