Google revamps subsidiary managing digital content; Silva takes the reins

Former Netflix executive joins Google to lead video subsidiary

Mountain View, Calif. – May 2, 2023 – Google LLC announced today the hiring of its first CEO for GoogleSubs, a new entity created to manage the company's growing digital content subscriptions across music, television, movies, and more. Nuno Silva, a former Netflix executive who oversaw the company's popular DVD-by-mail service as well as its early streaming efforts, was appointed to the role.

In a statement, Google CEO Sundar Pichai praised Silva's "deep understanding of the digital content landscape" and "proven track record of success in leading and growing subscription businesses." Pichai added that Silva's experience "will be invaluable as we continue to invest in and grow our GoogleSubs offering."
